Government Funding To Help Move Sussex Strategic Plan Forward

Combined funding from two levels of government is being provided to the Town of Sussex with the hopes of boosting the economy that has suffered since the suspension of operations at the Picadilly Potash Mine.

The federal and provincial governments are providing over $162 thousand to the town in the hopes of creating more economic opportunities in the community.

Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart says the announcement is a perfect example of the good things that can happen when all levels of government work together to support a community. She adds the community has engaged in a strategic plan forward.

They will be conducting a feasibility study to explore the potential of extracting geothermal energy from the mine, in the hopes they will attract new investments and employment to the region.

Sussex Mayor Marc Thorne says the funds will help them to implement key aspects of their new economic development strategic plan to enhance the economy of the entire region.
