Sussex Swim Meet To Honour Ellen Watters

Many people knew Ellen Watters as a cyclist, but she also played a very big part in the Sussex swimming community.

The Swordfish Swim Club will now hold an annual swim meet in Watters honour..

Head Coach Andrew Clarke says their meet to be held June 3rd, will now be called the Annual Ellen Watters Memorial Meet.

He says some of the swimmers are still dealing with the loss of their Assistant Coach, “Some of the meets, have been hard for them because Ellen used to send them a text message or an Instagram or something the day of the meet. It didn’t matter where she was. She always sent them a message that day saying good luck, have fun and give it your hardest.”

Clarke says she will be remembered as someone who was driven to do her best, no matter what it was, “She was focused and dedicated and had a lot of drive and was able to pass that along to the swimmers. She always strived to do her best.”

Watters died in December after she was struck by a car while cycling.
