Two People Displaced After House Fire On East Side

A man and woman have been displaced by a weekend house fire on the east side of the city.

Platoon chief Steve Vautour with the Saint John fire department says when crews arrived on the scene of 237 Churchland Road on Sunday morning they saw heavy smoke coming from the roofline and fire on the first floor.

He tells us that crews were able to get inside and knock the fire down pretty quickly.

“Unfortunately the fire had progressed to the point that it had made its way into the floors,” says Vautour.

“It required a great amount of work to get the fire totally extinguished. Crews were on scene for approximately five and a half hours.”

There was nobody in the building when the fire broke out and nobody was hurt. The fire investigator was called in to determine the cause of the fire, which at last report was still undetermined.
