Are you someone who rarely carries cash on them?
If so, you’ll be happy to hear that the City Transit and Parking Commission is aiming to become more technology friendly in the near future.
CEO Ian MacKinnon says the goal is to allow citizens to pay for parking or bus fares electronically in the near future.
MacKinnon says it costs roughly $35,000 a year for paper bus schedules and thinks becoming more technology friendly will help reduce those costs.
He says anything electronic alleviates the handling of cash, which can be very expensive.
The commission released a “next bus” app two months ago and google transit will be live within the next month.
Mayor Don Darling loves the idea.
He says he buys his coffee with an electronic app and calls the potential changes a great way for the commission to put itself on a sustainable path.
