Federal Government Urged To Ease Up On Travel Restrictions On Americans

The federal government is being urged to ease up on travel restrictions on Americans trying to cross the border with minor criminal convictions.

Currently, someone with an old Driving While Impaired charge can be prohibited entry into Canada according to the Executive Director of the Sunset Country Travel Association.

Gerry Cariou says tourists can apply to have their record rehabilitated, but it can be a time-consuming process.

He says we need a better solution surrounding the processing of applications because two years is too long and calls it unacceptable.

Cariou suggests the Canadian tourism industry has lost millions of dollars over the years because of these restrictions.
