Tax Rate In Quispamsis Proposed To Rise

The proposed 2018 budget for Quispamsis calls for a tax increase of just under a cent to $1.29 per $100 of assessment. The Chief Administrative Officer for the town, Susan Deuville says the Finance Committee recommended a hold the line budget.

For the first time ever, the tax base in the town shrank as commerical starts this year were described as non-existent. On the other hand, the town received a huge increase in its unconditional grant from the province of almost $350 thousand.

The proposed budget calls for a 4.4 per cent increase for police and 11 per cent increase for KV Fire. There’s another proposal to spend $70 thousand to connect the Q-R trail to Rothesay. There’s also proposals to spend $1.6 million on upgrading roads and a 5.5 per cent increase for the Q-Plex.
