The federal government has shown real leadership in protecting good resource jobs.
That’s the feeling of Unifor National President Jerry Dias as he reacts to a federal aid package for the softwood lumber industry.
Dias says the funding is a good start to cushioning the blow dealt by new U.S. duties on Canadian softwood and welcome news for dozens of communities that are already feeling the pain of unfair trade sanctions.
He says he’s optimistic the Trudeau Liberals can add to the relief program as time goes on.
Unifor is continuing to press both Canada and the U.S. to negotiate a fair deal.
