Three Fathers Run A Memorial To RCMP Officers Killed On June 4th, 2014

June 4th, three years ago, is one that the City of Moncton and its residents will never forget.

However, runners and walkers are hoping to put those memories behind them in the Three Fathers Run in honour of the three RCMP officers who were shot and killed on that day.

This is the fourth year they’ve held the run, which takes place on Father’s Day, on June 18th.

Spokesperson Nadine Larche was one of the wives who lost their husband on June 4th.

She says the Three Fathers run is very special to her daughters in particular.

“It’s something that I want to continue, because it’s something that’s important to them,” says Larche. “It’s something that they talk about all year long, about how excited and how very much they’re looking forward to participating in this event because it means so much to them.”

Larche’s husband Doug loved to run, and this helps to carry on his memory.

She says as a tribute, they donate the money they raise to “scholarships for six local high schools, those are Mathieu-Martin, L’Odysseé, Harrison Trimble, Moncton High, MacNaughton and Riverview High School [because] those are the schools that the Codiac RCMP Detachment covers.”

Constables Fabrice Gevaudan, and Dave Ross were the two other officers lost that day.

Two others were injured.
