The annual report of Saint John Water points out illegal dumping around the Loch Lomond Watershed where much of the city’s drinking water comes from remains a big problem.
In October, Saint John Water teamed up with students from the community college to conduct a Watershed Clean Up day. They took away more than 710 kilograms of garbage ranging from general litter to lawn furniture and various car parts.
There’s also a warning many of the lands in the watersheds are forested which poses risks from forest fires, disease, and insect infestation. In February, phase one of the harvesting plan was completed in the Loch Lomond watershed north of Third Lake.
There were 61 watermain breaks last year, 9 less than 2015.
