The Pittsburgh Penguins became the first team to repeat as NHL champion in nearly two decades with a 2-0 win over Nashville to take the series 4 games to 2. Sidney Crosby who led all scorers with 7 points in the Stanley Cup final was awarded his second consecutive Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs. He also led the league with 44 goals during the regular season. Goalie Matt Murray made 27 saves for his second straight shutout.

Co-ed hockey lives on in New Brunswick. A motion at the annual meeting of Hockey New Brunswick to eliminate co-ed hockey in favour of all girl leagues was withdrawn.
