Province Officially Introduces Legislation To Freeze Property Assessments

The province has officially introduced legislation to freeze property assessments in New Brunswick for a year.

This means property assessments will stay the same as they were in 2017 for the 2018 taxation year, though there are some exceptions like new construction related to a building permit and new construction and renovations without a building permit.

The province says it’s working with local governments to help offset any possible financial hits they take. In a release, Service New Brunswick Minister Serge Rouselle says they believe this freeze is the responsible choice.

Saint John received more than $1.2-million in financial assistance from the province because of the freeze.
