Common Council Approves A New Radio System For Protective Services And City Departments

Common Council has approved a new radio system for its protective services and other city departments.

The Trunk Mobile Radio system will be run under Bell Mobility and is costing the city close to four million dollars.

Manager of Programs and Priorities, Stephanie Rackley-Roach says the current system is 30 years old, analog and has not been reliable of late.

The new system will also be encrypted meaning criminals will no longer be able to listen to the police calls on scanners or the general public for that matter.

The original price tag for the system was $5.3 million.
