There will be many lessons learned from last week’s butane leak in east Saint John.
That from Mayor Don Darling, who took the chance at last night’s Common Council to thank first responders who dealt with the incident.
Darling says it’s fortunate there were no injuries or property damage.
“We’ll be working through a post-event review, including lessons learned, opportunities for the future to get an account of our costs,” says Darling.
The mayor also says that it’s important to look at integrated response plans with industry.
“We work with industry now, but certainly I think our [fire] chief and others have brought to our attention in the past the need to heighten that working relationship with industry, so we’ll certainly be following up on those items as well,” says Darling.
Darling also thanked the dozens of residents who were evacuated for their patience during the ordeal.
He says he’s received several notes and emails from residents who said they were very well treated despite having to be evacuated from their homes.
The New Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board has said that it’s investigating the leak.
