The Gallant government announced more financial support today for middle income families with children in daycare.
Premier Brian Gallant says families with children aged 5 and under, who are attending a daycare which is designated as a New Brunswick Early Learning Centre, will not pay more than 20 per cent of their income for care.
These subsidies will be available for families with annual gross incomes of over $37,500 on a sliding scale.
For example, if a family with one infant and one preschooler are attending an early learning centre with a gross family income of $40,000, they would receive a subsidy of over $15,000 a year.
Families with a gross family income of $80,000 would receive a subsidy of over $11,000 per year.
Those scenarios are based on a daily fee of $39/day per infant space and $33/day per preschool space.
The first daycares designated as Early Learning Centres will open in March in Saint John and Edmundston and will later be rolled-out across the province.
