St. Malachy’s Honoured For Innovation By Samsung

A big honour for St. Malachy’s High School from Samsung for innovation.

The school won $20 thousand in Samsung technology for being one of the regional winners in its Solve for Tomorrow Challenge. The four schools had the highest scoring projects among 150 regional finalists.

The students at St. Malachy’s were given the job of coming up with a project to solve a community issue. They devised a system of sensors to monitor air quality and provide live updates to a mapping interface. Their project was tested at high altitudes using a weather balloon.

They will now be taking part in an event this summer with rocket scientist Natalie Panek, who’s a member of the Canadian contingent who’s working on the European Space Agency’s ExoMars rover.
