Property Tax Assessment Freeze Tops Discussion At Tri-Mayor Meeting

The mayors of the three largest cities in New Brunswick met this week to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern.

The recent property tax assessment freeze announced by the provincial government was one of the major topics of discussion.

Mayor Dawn Arnold of Moncton, Mayor Don Darling of Saint John, and Mayor Mike O’Brien of Fredericton say this freeze will create a financial shortfall and they are calling on the province to get a better understanding of the impact it will have on residents and municipalities.

The mayors expect the solution to be a win-win for both the province and for the municipalities.

Other topics discussed include demographics, fiscal policy and economic development.
