Today Marks 3 Year Anniversary Of Hurricane Arthur

It’s a storm we will tell our kids about.

July 5th, 2014, Hurricane Arthur unleashed its fury on the province of New Brunswick, specifically in Charlotte County.

St. Stephen received 143 mms of rain, and winds at 110 kms per hour. Trees were ripped up by their roots, roads were flooded, homes and businesses were damaged, and many power lines were broken. More than 140,000 people were left without power in the province.

It was a full two weeks before power was fully restored in Charlotte County during the summer heat.

NB Power lists Arthur as it’s costliest power disruption in the utility’s history, with a bill of over $23 million dollars. Over two hundred outside power crews were hired on to help with damages, which cost roughly $16.7 million dollars.

During the height of the storm, the annual Harley Draw continued at the St. Stephen Legion, as it was one of the few places left with power in town.
