Several Crashes In Saint John On Friday

Saint John fire crews describe Friday as a very busy one for calls.

Platoon chief Brian Wilson told our newsroom one of those calls was a vehicle fire in the Lorneville industrial park.

“Crews found a dump truck fully involved when they arrived,” Wilson said. “There were some other vehicles close by but they were able to contain that to just the one vehicle, which sustained heavy damage.

Emergency crews also responded to five collisions, including a two-vehicle crash shortly before 8 a.m. at Rothesay Avenue and Rothesay Road, which Wilson said continues to be a problem intersection.

Two vehicles were also involved in a collision at Guilford and Ludlow streets on the west side around 10:40 a.m.

At 2:30 p.m., there was a two-vehicle crash on Retail Drive, and Wilson said one person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Then about three hours later, just before 5:30 p.m., there was a two-vehicle collision on the Paradise Row overpass.

Around 9:15 p.m., Wilson said crews were called to the intersection of Eden Street and Granville Crescent in the Red Head area after an all-terrain vehicle and a pick-up truck collided.

“There were four young youths involved in that and several of them were taken to hospital as a precaution,” he said.
