Adult Day Care Centre For Those With Dementia Opening In Fredericton

As part of the provincial government’s Home First strategy, they are opening a new adult daycare centre for those suffering from dementia in Fredericton.

Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers says support for caregivers is an important part of the Home First strategy and this new centre will complement the goal of adding 100 new respite spaces in daycares across the province.

Rogers says the research shows caregivers can keep their family member suffering from dementia home an average of 557 days longer with a proper support system.

She adds this means families can remain intact at home longer instead of having to move to hospitals or long term care facilities.

There are currently 17 adult day care centres in New Brunswick.
