There’s a critical need to promote new economic development in Saint John. That plea coming from City Manager Pat Woods.
He points out the increase in the tax base last year wasn’t even high enough to meet the city’s inflationary increases.
Mayor Mel Norton has made clear he would like to see the tax rate reduced during the current mandate of Common Council but Woods is cautioning that can’t happen unless there’s economic growth and a bigger increase in the city’s tax base.
