We will know whether the H-S-T will be raised on February 2nd. That’s when the provincial budget will be tabled and the Finance Minister Roger Melanson and big part of it will be from the Strategic Program Review.
Melanson says choosing several of six key major initiatives from the Review will be required in order to get New Brunswick’s finances back in order. The six key initiatives are rightsizing senior management in the civil service….reduce spending on health care and education…….increase the HST and Corporate Income Tax and introduce highway tolls.
The provincial Liberals are talking about having to make tough decisions butRothesay M-L-A Ted Flemming says they should be looking at themselves in the mirror because the real problem comes down to them spending too much money and a big infrastructure programme isn’t the answer. Flemming says that creates employment only for a short period of time and then what.
