Study Released On Child Care

How does Saint John compare when it comes to how much parents have to spend on child care? The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives has released a study with 27 selected cities across the country.

The monthly child care fee in Saint John is 651 dollars which compares to over a thousand dollars in Toronto, the most expensive city and the lowest at just 174 dollars in Montreal and Quebec City.

The study claims this country could use a million more regulated child care spaces and since last year, child care fees have gone up by an average of 5 per cent but child care workers have some of of the lowest wages of any occupation.
