The message from City Police after the third major winter storm in a week is crystal clear…….Stay off the roads.
Police say driving conditions, even on the main streets that have been plowed to some extent are terrible. The snow is also drifting in the gusty winds and walking has been made more difficult because of the growing piles of snow along the roads.
Kennebecasis Regional Police say driving conditions along Highway One are bad because of reduced visibility caused by the blowing snow.
No City Transit buses will be running until at least 9:00 this morning when the situation will be evaluated.
Schools have been closed in the Anglophone South School District and Francophone South.
The New Brunswick Community College has cancelled classes for the day.
U-N-B Saint John will be closed until noonhour.
Eastern College and Eastern Trades College is closed as is Somerset pre-school.
28 centimeters of snow had fallen by early this morning and Jean-Marc Couturier of Environment Canada warns the winds will diminish a bit during the day but will remain strong.
The three storms over the past week have dumped 125 centimeters of snow on the Saint John region.
Environment Canada is keeping an eye on another storm that’s expected in our area later this week with another 15 centimeters or more of snow.
All morning arrivals and departures from Saint John Airport have been cancelled.
Taxis are still making their way through the storm but we’re told they’re pretty much limited to the main roads that have been plowed.
Both the Garden Street and Millidge Avenue Circle “K” ran out of gas last night.
