Provincial Liberal Leader Brian Gallant is proposing to raise taxes on the rich whether they be individuals or businesses.
Gallant says it doesn’t make any sense to be giving tax breaks to big multinational corporations like Costco and Wal-Mart when the provincial government has a half million dollar deficit.
He’s promising to rescind a tax break given to big businesses and a new tax rate of 21 per cent that would apply to incomes between 150 thousand and a quarter of a million dollars a year. Gallant estimates these two measures would increase provincial revenue by $63 million.
Gallant also is promising to return business property tax rates to what they were in 2012 in order to raise more than 34 million dollars.
