Grant Likes Some of The TSB Report on Lac Megantic

Rothesay’s deputy mayor says the Transportation Safety Board’s assessment of a weak safety culture at Montreal, Maine and Atlantic railway is a cause for concern.

Dr. Nancy Grant established a rail safety committee in the town that tracks run through not long after the Quebec tragedy.

Grant tells us the TSB’s issued recommendations including removing the oldest cars off the line which Transport Canada did but other cars have a three year phase out.

She says members of her committee are raising other issues such as protection on the pressure-release valve on the top and the protection on the outlook valve on the bottom so they don’t leak oil if there is an accident.

She finds it interesting that the TSB says the new cars are better but they do not do maximum risk mitigation.
