Green Party Leader: Pollution Control Should Be Normal Cost Of Doing Business In NB

New Brunswick’s Green Party Leader says fear is the reason the Liberal and Conservative governments in the province have left our watersheds unprotected.

David Coon says they’re fearful of requiring businesses to incorporate polution control as a cost of doing business and he tells us that’s simply unacceptable. He says pollution control just needs to be a normal cost of doing business in New Brunswick and we haven’t seen our government take that position for a very long time now.

He says the next government needs to adopt water quality standards developed through community groups in watersheds.

A report released by the provincial ombudsman comparing New Brunswick’s waterway classification regulation under the Clean Water Act to a smoke detector without batteries, it offers no protection. Coon says it injects a new dimension into the provincial election campaign.
