People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals opposes the recently announced plan in Quispam, Rothesay and Hampton to reduce deer numbers by giving more hunting licenses to both bow-hunters and regular hunters. PETA has issued an email call to action urging people to write to their elected representatives protesting the plan, which they say has recieved thousands of responses from Canadians.
Stephanie Bell of PETA tells CHSJ News bow-hunting is simply cruel, and that bow hunters routinely spend hours tracking the blood trails left by wounded deer–and sometimes, the animals are never found as they take weeks to succumb to their injuries.
Bell says killing the deer won’t reduce the population unless you eliminate the food sources….because if there’s still food there, other deer will simply move in and take the place of the ones hunted off.
