The reopening of schools is generally seen as the unofficial end of summer but not all students will be starting today.
Half of kindergarten students start today and half tomorrow.
All students in grades 1 to 5 begin classes today.
For middle and high school students, there will be a ‘transition day’ with only grades 6 and 9 attending today. The exceptions will be the schools with kindergarten through grade 8. They will not have a grade 6 transition day so all students in those schools go back today. Also, schools with grades 6 to 12 and those with kindergarten through grade 12 will not have transition days either.
For the high schools in Saint John only the grade 9 students go back today. Students in grades 10 to 12 return tomorrow and then all grades on Thursday.
