In the American League, Eastern Division leading Baltimore lost to Minnesota 6-4 while the Yankees and Jays were idle…….The Red Sox lost to Tampa Bay in 10 innings 4-3. In the Central Division, both Kansas City and Detroit won so the Royals retain a half game lead on the Tigers.
St. Louis moved one game up on Milwaukee in the National League Central Division with a 5-4 win over Pittsburgh while the Brewers lost to the Cubs 4-2.
In the New Brunswick Senior League playoffs, the game between the Saint John Alpines and Moncton Mets was postponed last night because of the weather and rescheduled for tonight in Moncton. The best of five quarter final is tied at one game each. Game 4 is back at Memorial Field tomorrow night at 7:30.
In the River Valley Oldtimers League, the Molson Merchants over Home Hardware 14-11 to tie up the best of five semi final at 1 game each. The other semi final is also tied at one game each after the Desaulnier Surveys got by Exit Realty 7-6.
In the Soccer New Brunswick championships, Fundy won the under 12 girls, under 14 boys, under 16 girls and under 16 boys titles.
Serena Williams reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal of the year at the U.S. Open while Eugenie Bouchard was eliminated……In men’s play, Milos Raonic was also eliminated in a marathon match.
