“Just do it” and “yes we can” are permanently etched in the North American public consciousness: now the City of Saint John is looking for similarly simple and snappy slogan about getting things done.
Mayor Mel Norton has requested city staff come up with a mission statement for the city reflecting the idea that any reasonable citizen request should be met with a default response of “yes”, even if fullfilling it means thinking outside the box. The Mayor says it’s easy to lose sight of the idea that the default response to any reasonable request for assistance from the city should be “yes”, and the missions statement will remind staff, plus all agencies, boards, and commissions, of that fact.
City Staff will come up with a mission statement then report back to common council.
