Passenger Numbers Rise At Airport

Saint John Airport officials, after reporting a six per cent increase in the number of passengers from January to June, are hoping to set a new record by the end of this year.

Airport President and C-E-O Dave Allen attributes the increase to the addition of a 4th daily flight to Toronto in early June as well as the harmonization of Air Canada fares in the province which means no one airport has a price advantage.

Norm McFarlane chairs the Airport Authority’s Board of Directors and tells CHSJ News Saint Johnners have to decide they will use the airport or lose it. He’s hoping that message is getting through.

As for the future, Airport President and C-E-O Dave Allen says the runways are due to be reconditioned in 2017 and the terminal building, which was built in 1952, is tired and in need of significant improvements or replacement.
