Adoption of Zone SJ Remains Elusive

The protracted discussion of ZoneSJ and what the proposed municipal plan to guide development in the city over the next generation will mean for individual businesses and landowners continuing at City Hall last night, having spilled over from the public consultation held at City Hall Monday night.

Discussion was at times dominated by requests for clarification about a warning issued by the City Solicitor that councillors shouldn’t say anything that reveals a bias for or against a particular application.

Councillor Susan Fullerton objected, saying if she’s unable to indicate a position she might as well “get herself a gag.”

Mayor Mel Norton is imploring councilors not to get bogged down in objections from the few.

The matter is back before Council on September 29th.
