The Saint John Mill Rats downed Halifax 105-100 in National Basketball League play. Corey Allmond’s three pointer with 22 seconds left and two free throws by Gabe Freeman clinched the win. Freeman was the big scorer for the Mill Rats with 25 points. Doug Herring Junior had 24.

The Cleveland Browns have hired Hue Jackson as their new head coach. Jackson, a former head coach of the Oakland Raiders, was Cincinnati’s offensive co-ordinator this past season. Jackson’s hiring is raising questions whether quarterback Johnny Manziel has a future in Cleveland.
Former NFL and CFL player Lawrence Phillips was found dead in his prison cell in California. He was serving a 31 year sentence and was also suspected of killing his cellmate and was ordered to stand trial.
