Saint John Mayor Mel Norton Will Not Be Running For Re-Election

Mayor Mel Norton will not be re-offering in the upcoming municipal election, calling the last four years among the most rewarding of his life and saying the major goals of their campaign have been met.

In an emailed statement called “The End of a Mandate, but not the End of the Work” Norton saying it’s time for him to return to his private life with a renewed focus on his legal practice he is a partner at the law firm Lawson Creamer on Prince William Street in uptown Saint John.

He was elected Mayor of Saint John in 2012 beating out Ivan Court, who conceded early. Before that, he served as a Ward 3 councillor.

The final line of statement says, “Until May 9th, 2016 it will continue to be my privilege and honour to lead and care for the renaissance city.”
