A review into policing practices spurred by Justin Bourque’s shooting rampage in Moncton last summer resulted in a list of 64 recommendations for police, ranging from the use of patrol carbines, or short-barrelled rifles, to officers wearing ceramic body armour.
Saint John Police Chief Bill Reid says City Police are prepared to invest the $30,000 to $40,000 it will cost to outfit members with that gear but the biggest cost will be week long training for each member.
Reid says a lot of the recommendations were simply procedural for the RCMP and the Saint John Police Department is already in compliance with them.
