Well Known Saint Johner Passes Away

A well known figure anytime a special event was taking place in the city which required crowd control and traffic diversion, Harold Mayes has died at the age of 88.

He worked for Driscoll’s Lumber Mill, the Lancaster Police Department for four years, the Port and the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Office as a driver examiner for 21 years.

Harold retired as Captain of the Saint John Salvage Corps and Fire Police. He also volunteered for the Lancaster Fire Department and is an honourary member of Saint John Fire Fighters Local 773 of the International Association of Firefighters.

There will be a noon hour funeral service next Tuesday at the Brenan’s Chapel on Paradise Row.

Visitation will take place on Monday from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and from 6 to 8 at night.
