Heavy Snowfall Translates to Fewer Grass Fires

A soggy Spring a big help to the Saint John Fire Department in the form of fewer grass fires.

All the snow was to thank for that.

Fire Prevention Division Chief Mark Wilson tells CHSJ News they don’t do controlled burns anymore saying it’s just too risky.

He says the next thing you know you have a whole field going and it could be heading towards a residential area.

Wilson says the City of Saint John has regulation regarding outside burning and recreational burning adding it involves following the manufacturer’s guidelines for fire pits and people can get it from the city’s website.
