Wednesday Morning Sports For July 22nd

In the Majors, Russell Martin, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion homered as the Blue Jays beat Oakland 7-1. Josh Donaldson doubled twice and drove in a run in his first game in Oakland since being traded….Brendan Ryan hit a tiebreaking double in the sixth inning to help the Yankees get by Baltimore 3-2 and the Red Sox lost to Houston 8-3.

At the Pan Am Games, Canada took the top two spots in the 3,000-metre steeplechase on a solid opening day in track and field. Shawnacy Barber of Toronto won the men’s pole vault and Elizabeth Gleadle of Vancouver captured the javelin…….Mohammed Ahmed of St. Catharines, Ontario won the men’s 10,000…..Tim Nedow of Brockville, Ontario added a silver in the men’s shot put…… Sultana Frizell of Perth, Ontario took bronze in the women’s hammer throw and Toronto’s Nikkita Holder won bronze in the women’s 100 hurdles. Canada has won 160 medals.

NHL expansion is down to two cities with applications from Las Vegas and Quebecor for Quebec City.
