Saint John Community Food Basket Funding Shortage “Vicious Cycle”

The Saint John Community Food Basket is short $40,000 in funding and have requested $10,000 in grant money from the city to go towards the operating fund for this year.

Councillor Gerry Lowe visited the building and was impressed. He says one of the main reasons behind the funding shortage is an increase in rent after the organization moved buildings.

He says so many churches have closed over the last few years and that’s where a lot of their funding came from.

Lowe says Saint John is a city of volunteers and if we can’t keep the houses the volunteers work out of, we’re in big trouble.

He says says it reminds him of years ago when things were tough and calls it a “vicious cycle”.
