An uptown Saint John restaurant is closed for repairs after a fire early Saturday morning caused some damage.
Platoon Chief Kevin Comeau said they were first called to 38 Canterbury Street shortly after 1 a.m. and found smoke and flowing water.
Comeau told our newsroom the search for the source of the fire led them two doors down the street to Pomodori Pizzeria.
“Crews found there had been a small fire that was extinguished by sprinkler, which had activated,” Comeau said.
Please note that our uptown location of Pomodori at 34 Canterbury Street will be closed for repairs due to a fire.
We are thankful that no one was injured and are working to get back open as quickly as possible.

Tenants living above the restaurant in the three-storey building returned home shortly after the fire, he said.
The cause has yet to be determined, Comeau said, but does not appear to be suspicious.
In a Facebook post, Pomodori Pizzeria said they believe a pizza prep cooler was the source of the fire.
“Thanks to the sprinkler system, the damage has been mostly contained to the front section of the restaurant,” the post said.
“We look forward to serving you again uptown very soon.”
