Thursday Morning Sports For July 23rd

At the Pan Am Games, Canada picked up 13 more medals for a total of 173. The U.S. leads with 201. Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse captured gold in the men’s 100 metres…..Toronto’s Sarah Wells won a silver medal in the women’s 400 hurdles. Whitney McClintock won the women’s waterskiing competition and Rusty Malinoski of Humboldt, Saskatchewan captured the men’s wakeboarding title.

Pinch-hitter Ike Davis beat out an infield single with two outs in the 10th inning to give the Oakland A’s a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays who had tied the game on a bases loaded walk in the 9th…Alex Rodriguez hit his 20th homer of the season and Mark Teixeira connected for a two run shot as the Yankees edge Baltimore 4-3 to move 11 games over .500…… Preston Tucker homered twice to give Houston a 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox who will have to make do without pitcher Clay Bucholtz for several weeks due to an elbow strain.

In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals won their 60th game of the season, 3-2 over the Chicago White Sox to give them the best record in the Majors.

The Saint John Alpines of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League are back in action tonight at Memorial field against the Fredericton Royals starting at 7:30.
