Monday Morning Sports For September 22nd

In the NFL last night, Pittsburgh scored 28 points in the second half to beat Carolina 37-19……Rob Gronkowski caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady which was the only touchdown of the game, in the Patriots’ 16-9 win over the Raiders. New England is now 2 and 1 and in a matchup of the two Super Bowl teams, Seattle again prevailed over Denver 26-20 in overtime.

In the Majors, the American League Central tightened up as Kansas City won over Detroit 5-2….The Royals trail by a game and a half……The Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 5-2 on pitcher Masahiro Tanaka’s return to remain 4 and a half games out of the wildcard. The Oakland A’s maintain the wildcard lead after a walkoff 8-6 win over Philadelphia.

In the National League Central, Pittsburgh is 2 and a half games back of St. Louis after a 1-0 win over Milwaukee while the Cardinals lost to Cincinnati 7-2. St. Louis has clinched a playoff spot as have the Dodgers. Pittsburgh and San Francisco are in good shape to make the playoffs as the wildcards.

In Major Midget hockey, the Saint John Vitos doubled up on Charlottetown 8-4.

In Maritime Junior “A” hockey, the St. Stephen County Aces lost to Truro 8-4 over the weekend.
