Tuesday Morning Sports For September 23rd

In the NFL last night, the Chicago Bears improved to 2 and 1 with a 27-19 win over the New York Jets.

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is denying a report by ESPN that team president Dick Cass and general manager Ozzie Newsome tried to persuade NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to be lenient with Ray Rice following his arrest in February. The report claims Ravens coach John Harbaugh urged Rice be cut after the video of him punching his then fiancee in a hotel elevator first emerged.

In the Majors, the Yankees shut out Baltimore 5-0 but didn’t gain any ground in the playoff chase as Oakland doubled up on the Los Angeles Angels 8-4. In the American League Central, Detroit lost to the White Sox 2-0 which reduced their lead to just one game over Kansas City after the Royals shut out Cleveland 2-0.

In the National League, Pittsburgh is on the verge of making the playoffs after a 1-0 win over Atlanta.

In the West, the San Francisco Giants downed the Dodgers 5-2 in 13 innings to solidify their hold on a wildcard playoff spot.

In Junior Varsity girls soccer, St. Stephen High defeated Fundy High 5-2.
