Wednesday Morning Sports For August 12th

In the Majors, the blue tide from the great white north continues to roll as the Blue Jays win their 9th in a row, 4-2 over Oakland……Jose Bautista hit another homer and Drew Hutchison pitched 7 strong innings to move just a half game back of the New York Yankees who lost to Cleveland 5-4 in 16 innings…..The Red Sox squandered a 4 run lead and lost to Miami 5-4 in 10 innings.

In the National League, the two best teams faced eachother with St. Louis edging Pittsburgh 4-3. The New York Mets increased their lead over Washington in the East to 2 and a half games with a 4-0 shutout of Colorado. The Nationals lost to the Dodgers 5-0. The Giants kept pace with Los Angeles in the West with a 3-1 win over Houston as Madison Bumgarner throws a complete game, striking out 12 Astros.

The New York Jets losing quarterback Geno Smith for 6 to 10 weeks after he was sucker punched by a teammate over 600 dollars and suffered a broken jaw.

Robert Jackson of Fredericton set a New Brunswick record in the 5000metres for men between 60 and 64 years of age at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Lyon, France with an amazing time of 18:17. With this result he finished 10th among the 63 competitors in that age category. The previous provincial record was 19:09.60 set by Raymond Caissie in 2012.
