With children home for the summer, they have a lot of free time to potentially get themselves into trouble.
Jim Murphy is the Vice President of Healthcare Strategy at Sykes Telehealth.
He says keeping toxic chemicals and medication out of reach of children is paramount, but medicine cabinets are not always enough.
“And remember that medicine cabinets may be above a sink in a bathroom, but if you have a stool, the stool becomes a ladder, the sink becomes a chair and then the medicine cabinet is easily opened,” says Murphy.
Murphy says you should secure a medicine cabinet, or other cupboards storing chemicals with a child proof mechanism.
He adds it’s important to keep day medications in purses and handbags safe and out of reach of children as well.
