Unrealistic, unjustified and unacceptable………That’s what the Saint John Alpines of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League are saying about the proposed increase in the hourly fee to use Memorial Field.
The city is proposing to increase the hourly fee from $22.65 to almost 41 dollars an hour. Alpines Manager Terre Hunter says that’s an 80 per cent increase at a time when inflation is running at between 2 and 3 per cent.
The Alpines say minimal improvements have been made to Memorial Field with some lights on the scoreboard burned out and not replaced, the public address system can barely be heard and some sections of the board fence surrounding the field are in danger of falling over.
