The number of youth starting their own businesses is on the decline, that’s according to the Business Development Bank of Canada.
Chief Economist Pierre Cleroux says numbers have been decreasing over the past 15 years right across the country.
Cleroux says the number of young Canadians who become entrepreneurs has declined by 37% which is quite significant.
He says we are dealing with an aging population and many students are graduating with higher debt levels which in turn makes it harder for them to start their own business.
Cleroux adds it may also be because younger people don’t see the same advantage to starting their own business now as compared to the past.
