Many have been quick to comment that Canada has “lost its innocence” after yesterday.
But were we really that “innocent” of potential threats to our country at any point in our country’s long history?
Dr David Charters, a military historian, reminds CHSJ News yesterday wasn’t the first time we saw an attack on Canadian government institutions: just lok as far as the FLQ crisis, the attack on the Quebec parliament in 1984, and the tour bus that was hijacked and crashed on the Hill in 1989.
Charters says to claim the country has “lost its innocence”, as some online commenters and memes have claimed, is taking things a bit too far, and the important thing is for us to return to business as usual and remain as open a society as possible.
