Enterprise Saint John says more people were looking for work in the region last month with the labour force increasing to 15 hundred and that’s what accounts for the higher unemployment rate locally.
According to figures from Enterprise Saint John, employment in the region last month increased by 900 jobs with four of the last 5 months experiencing employment increases and the fifth month stable.
Janet Scott of Enterprise Saint John says the Conference Board predicts Saint John and Moncton will be among the top five small and medium sized cities when it comes to economic growth.
She adds with the American housing market getting stronger, the export of building materials from New Brunswick to the U.S. should be increasing and the lower value of the Canadian dollar will also help the region’s economy.
