The Fundy Regional Service Commission continuing their talks surrounding the development of a recreation plan that would involve rural communities and the five municipalities in the area.
Chair Murray Driscoll says the draft framework is being worked on, but likely won’t be finalized until after the municipal elections in May.
Driscoll says it’s unfortunate that it’s caught in between an election. He says it’s difficult to have something before an election carried into the new council.
Brenda MacCallum is in charge of Public Relations & Program Development. She says through the plan, they’ll be able to hire a Recreation Coordinator who would work within the Regional Service Commission and would be able to support recreational activities.
MacCallum says that would especially help rural communities where recreation is happening, but it’s really being run by volunteers.
She says main purpose of the plan is to have more of a collaboration from the surrounding municipalities and rural communities to move forward in the right direction in terms of teaming up on regional facilities.
She says the provincial government will cover 75 percent of the cost towards hiring a Recreation Coordinator, with the rest being funded through the Regional Service Commission.
Local Service Districts will review the recreation plan before it’s accepted.
